IT Budgets increase due to Windows 7?

“The analysts at Gartner Inc. are warning that business migrations from Windows XP and Windows 2000 to Windows 7 in the next couple of years could create budgetary and resource burdens on IT shops.”  (ZDNET article 08/27/2010 by Mary Jo Foley).

I see it as possible but not probable.  Many of the later PC purchases come with 2GB memory and high processor speeds and 160+ GB Hard Drives so migrating to Windows 7, I don’t see as being a major issue.

Of course there are many PC’s that do not have the expanded memory, higher processor speeds and larger Hard Drives and for those there may be this cost.

Personally I think it depends on if they user wants to update their hardware or just update the OS. If the hardware can not support the new OS then I would say most will go for the brand new hardware and not waste their time or effort on a migration that includes  upgrading old hardware and the cost associated with that.

Users know the cost of keeping up with the latest technology.
